Free family fishing on this long weekend

* Agriculture and Forestry [to May 2015]
The annual Free Family Fishing Weekend will run from May 16 to 19, 2014 making it a great time to take your family fishing at a local pond, stream or river, says Minister of Agriculture and Forestry George Webster.

“Every year during the Victoria Day long weekend, Island families are invited to participate in the Free Family Fishing Weekend,” said Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, George Webster. “This special weekend was created to enable families to enjoy angling without an angling licence and to encourage a new generation of Islanders to participate in this traditional and healthy outdoor activity.”

However, people are reminded that even though a licence is not required during this special weekend, all angling rules including species, catch limits and other restrictions still apply.

A special five-day Family Fishing licence is also available for $10 + HST (includes a $5 Wildlife Conservation Fund (WCF) fee). This licence allows the holder and family to enjoy angling for five days from date of purchase.

Island streams and rivers are among the most productive fish habitats in eastern Canada. Money from the WCF helps to support the efforts of watershed management and habitat conservation across the Island.
