Fourth Annual Studio Tour This Weekend

Prince Edward Island craft studios are open and waiting for your visit this weekend during the fourth annual Studio Tour, an initiative by the Department of Development and Technology to support and promote the vibrant craft and giftware industry in our province.

This year over 140 Island craft studios, galleries, shops and museums are participating in the tour which means great deals from tip to tip of the Island. From the Singing Sands Sea Breeze Souvenirs Studio in Red Point to Artistic Endeavours in Tignish, consumers have the chance to see where some of the finest PEI handcrafts are produced.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the talented people who make the Island's craft industry so unique," said the Honourable Michael F. Currie, Minister of Development & Technology. "The Studio Tour Weekend is also a chance for people to see hands-on demonstrations while they watch artisans at work."

During the Studio Tour Weekend, shoppers will be able to save the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) on all Island made crafts and giftware at any of the participating craft studios, galleries, shops and museums across Prince Edward Island.

"In addition to saving the PST on all purchases of Island made handcrafts and giftware, shoppers will be able to buy quality products," said Marie Walsh, Craft Project Coordinator with PEI Business Development Inc. "This savings combined with any in-store specials that several stores are offering makes the Studio Tour Weekend a perfect time to shop and support Island craftspeople."

Official Tour Guides are available at all PEI Visitor Information Centres. This easy-to-use booklet will lead you on a self-guided tour of all the participating shops in various regions across the province. Studio Tour balloons and signage will also be posted along the way.
