August 20, 1996 * Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry [to Oct 1996]"The Island's Forest Fire Weather Index reached extreme" stated Walter Bradley, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. He noted that "all fire permits are invalid under the current fire weather conditions including those for land clearing, debris control, and other burns requiring forest fire permits." The Minister indicated that "small camp fires in properly located or constructed fire pits situated so that they do not endanger forests or dry vegetation will still be allowed." The Minister asks all campground operators to ensure that there are buckets of water and/or shovels adjacent to each fire pit.
