The honour of presenting Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cambridge with flowers while in Prince Edward Island will go to six Island students, says Premier Robert Ghiz.
“It is a timeless tradition to offer ladies of the Royal Family a bouquet of seasonal flowers in each place they visit,” said the premier. “The responsibility of handling such a task is usually designated to children.”
Flower bearers for the 2011 Royal Tour are:
• Haley Perry, Pleasant Grove, age 10
• Bridget Keedwell, Charlottetown, age 10
• Tori MacSwain, Montague, age 10
• Emma Jane Webster-Lawrence, York, age 8
• Lauren Ferguson, Kensington, age 8
• Sophia Best, Murray Harbour, age 10
Flower bearers were chosen through a random draw of entries into the province’s Royal Tour poster campaign in Island schools. The province received 160 posters during the campaign.
“This is a great opportunity to continue the tradition of making children a part of the Royal Visit and to especially welcome Her Royal Highness to our province,” said Premier Ghiz. “These children are wonderful examples of our Island’s future and they will be wonderful ambassadors for our province.”
