The PEI Department of Environmental Resources has begun the process of revising and updating the Fish and Game Protection Act. The current act has not had a major revision since 1974. A series of focus groups has already been held, and a number of wildlife, environmental and major farm organizations have participated.
Further public input and suggestions on the wildlife act are welcome. Minister of Environmental Resources, Barry Hicken encourages input, emphasizing that, "It is important that new legislation reflects the input and consensus of Islanders. This is an opportunity to influence the way wildlife - a Crown resource - is managed."
Anyone wishing more information is invited to contact Art Smith, Director of the Fish and Wildlife Division at 368-6083. Specific comments and suggestions will be considered in designing the new legislation. The deadline for comments is October 31, 1996.
