Fiber Connections Inc. Receives Overwhelming Response from West Prince Labour Force

More than 600 people in West Prince attended a series of information sessions held by Fiber Connections Inc (FCI) last week. The purpose of the sessions was to determine the level of interest in working in the fiber optics industry, specifically, with FCI.

"All four sessions were extremely rewarding and the interest from the community seemed unlimited," said Larry Fingler, President of Fiber Connections Inc. "Because of the interest shown by workers in the area as well as the tremendous success of our Slemon Park operation, our tentative plan is to establish another manufacturing facility in West Prince in the near future."

The next step following these sessions will be an evaluation of the project by Fiber Connections Inc. and the various government agencies.

"The Province is glad that the people of West Prince were able to demonstrate to the company that they are willing and able to take on the kind of work that FCI offers," said the Honourable Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "Our department was pleased to support Fiber Connections' move to Prince Edward Island and we look forward to the future development of this company."

Fiber Connections Inc. is a manufacturer of fiber optic cable assemblies, with a growing customer base in North America, Australia, Japan and Europe. FCI has been based in Schomberg, Ontario since 1995. This past summer, FCI opened a plant in Prince Edward Island, employing approximately 50 people to date.
