Elmsdale, Prince Edward Island, August 8, 2016—The governments of Canada and Prince Edward Island are making investments in transportation infrastructure that will help create jobs and grow the middle class now while building a strong foundation for a sustainable economic future.
Bobby Morrissey, Member of Parliament for Egmont, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and the Honourable Paula Biggar, Prince Edward Island Minister of Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy, today announced almost $2 million in funding for a project to improve seven collector roads.
Work involves improving the structural strength, safety and efficiency of more than 16.5 kilometres of roadway on Route 4 in Cardigan and Primrose, Route 11 in Miscouche, Route 12 in West Devon and Tyne Valley, Route 13 in Hunter River and Rennies Road, Route 15 in Harrington and Brackley Beach, and Route 150 in Union and Elmsdale.
Once complete, the project will help improve traffic flow during the tourist season, improve driver safety and boost economic growth by making links from farms to markets more efficient.
The total estimated project cost is $4,490,305. The Government of Canada will contribute up to $1,994,042, representing 50 percent of the total eligible project costs, while the Government of Prince Edward Island will provide the remaining funding.
