Valerie Docherty, Minister responsible for the Status of Women, recognizes The Advisory Council on the Status of Women, as they release a new Equality Report Card today. The Equality Report Card is a process created by the Advisory Council to conduct an annual assessment of the Province's progress towards women's equality goals.
All departments of government cooperated with the Advisory Council on the Status of Women in the Equality Report Card process. This has led to enhanced awareness of the issues that women in Prince Edward Island say are priorities.
“I truly commend the Advisory Council on the Status of Women for the time and effort the members have contributed to this evaluation and for their ongoing commitment to issues important to women,” said Minister Docherty. “I believe that it is important for government to collaborate with the Council on policy and programs that affect the lives of women across Prince Edward Island.”
The Advisory Council on the Status of Women is an arms-length government agency mandated to advise the provincial government and bring before the public, matters relating to the status of women. The Council works for equality and supports women's full and active participation in social, legal, cultural, economic, and political spheres of life.
