The Equality Report Card for PEI is an important evaluation for Island women according to the Honourable Valerie E. Docherty, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women.
“The Equality Report Card for PEI provides the provincial government an in-depth assessment of a wide range of women’s equality issues,” said Minister Docherty. “This report can assist us to address areas, identified by the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, and to continue working on those areas as we go forward,” she added.
The Advisory Council on the Status of Women is an arms-length government agency. It was established to advise the Minister Responsible with respect to matters relating to the status of women, the development of public awareness regarding issues affecting women, and the promotion of change in attitudes within the community in order that women may enjoy an equality of opportunity. The Council supports women’s full and active participation in social, legal, cultural, economic and political spheres of life.
The Equality Report Card for PEI is a process created by the Advisory Council to conduct an annual assessment of the Province’s progress towards women’s equality goals identified by the council.
“I applaud the work and effort the council members have contributed to the Equality Report Card for PEI,” said Minister Docherty. “Once again, all departments of government have worked quite hard to participate in this process. It is valuable for government to collaborate with the Council on initiatives that relate to women in Prince Edward Island,” she added.
