Enhanced Funding for the Provincial Amateur Sport Support Program

Health and Wellness
The Hon. Carolyn Bertram, Minister of Health and Wellness, is pleased to announce enhanced funding to the Provincial Amateur Sport Support Program, Government’s primary program to assist over 40 Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs). The Amateur Sport Support Program will increase by $225,000, bringing the total program amount to $430,000 annually.

“From the under-four soccer players just starting out, to our high performance track athletes, to all our Canada Games Teams, Provincial Sport Organizations provide support, training and guidance to our athletes, coaches and officials,” said Minister Bertram.

Through the Amateur Sport Support Program, government provides direct financial support annually to PSOs for their day-to-day operations and to assist their ongoing efforts in developing athletes, coaches and officials. This new funding will more than double the total program budget and will result in increased funding for the Travel Funding Grant, the Sport Projects Grant and the Administration/Operations Grant.

In recognition of PSOs efforts to connect with their National Sport Organization’s Long-Term Athlete Development Model, new funding will also be available to assist with the creation of provincial implementation strategies.

“Our PSOs provide an essential service to Islanders,” said Minister Bertram. “With the recent launch of our new go! PEI campaign, we want to encourage more Islanders to get out and get active. For those interested in organized sport, our PSOs provide an avenue for Islanders to get involved.”
