October 22, 2013 The Legislative Assembly of PEI recently received a donation of a framed Edward Scriven engraving of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent (1834). The beautiful engraving was donated to the Legislative Assembly by the Tidridge Family of Waterdown, Ontario in honour of Catherine Hennessey, C.M. for her extraordinary efforts in preserving and interpreting Island history, heritage and built architecture. The Legislature of St. John’s Island voted to change its name to Prince Edward Island in honour of Prince Edward on November 29, 1798. The Act received Royal Assent by King George III on February 2, 1799 and came into effect on June 3 of that year. With Ms. Hennessey in attendance, Professor Thomas H. B. Symons, C.M. presented the engraving on behalf of the Tidridge Family at a special ceremony on October 11, 2013. The engraving will be displayed in the Speaker’s Library at Province House for all to enjoy.Media Contact: Charles MacKay
