Eastern Auto Supply benefits greatly from provincial partnership

Workforce and Advanced Learning
Eastern Auto Supply is a family-run business that is benefitting greatly from our provincial training initiative, offered through Employ PEI, says Minister Richard Brown, Workforce and Advanced Learning.

“The company has seen tremendous success through Employ PEI, having hired three new employees over the past few years,” said Minister Brown. “Their newest hire, Melanie, an auto parts clerk is an asset to their team as she is very approachable for current and potential customers. I had the opportunity of visiting Eastern Auto Supply recently and meeting their great team. As a Province, we’re proud to offer training assistance and financial support to Island businesses.”

Melanie Worth, was recently hired by Eastern Auto Supply for a 22-week work experience where she enhanced her employability skills and benefitted from permanent employment. Worth used her work experience to learn about the company, automotive products, and software, and helped build a new customer base for Eastern Auto Supply.

“Working with the staff of Skills PEI has proven to be a success for us,” said Thane and Bernice Thomson, owners of Eastern Auto Supply. “The program has allowed us to hire three permanent, full-time employees, including Melanie, and they are all great assets to us as they help us grow our business.”

Eastern Auto Supply specializes in automotive and industrial paint, rim, and tire packages; high performance engine parts; and HID lights, spark plugs, windshield wipers, and more. The shop is located on St. Peters Road in Charlottetown.

Employ PEI was developed to assist employers in creating long-term employment opportunities for job seekers by aiding with costs associated with hiring and training new employees on the job through a wage subsidy. For more information on Employ PEI, visit skillspei.com
