East Prince Health Facility RFP Process Continued

* Health and Social Services [to Nov 2005]
Health and Social Services Minister Jamie Ballem advised today that the second-ranked proponent in the qualification process to construct the new East Prince Health Facility will now be offered the opportunity to respond to the Request for Proposals to construct the facility.

The extension of the Request for Proposals follows the detailed review of the proposal by the first-ranked proponent, East Prince Partnerships Ltd. That proposal did not pass the financial assessment phase of the evaluation process.

"Naturally, we are disappointed that the cost estimate submitted by the first- ranked firm was not within the range established as part of the evaluation process," said the minister. "However, this is a very large and significant project, and we believe it is in the best interests of taxpayers and the users of the facility to follow the evaluation process established."

The minister advised that the project remains on target. The functional plan and the design of the facility are complete. The estimated response time to submit and evaluate the next proposal is about two months.
