Prince Edward Island's newest championship golf course will open this Friday, July 16.

The announcement was made this morning by the Minister of Fisheries and Tourism, Honourable Kevin MacAdam, following the latest independent assessment of the new Brudenell course.

"We had the best in the business go over the course and both have given the green light for it to open. The first play will be this Friday with the Peter Gzowski Invitational Tournament, a fund raising tournament for the PEI Literacy Alliance. Regular play will follow that," stated Minister MacAdam.

James A. Wyllie, President of Dormy House Ltd., one of North America's leading golf course superintendents, and James E. Skorulski, an agronomist for the North Eastern region with the United States Golf Association, went over the course on Monday and have given the go ahead for it to open.

Minister MacAdam says the biggest factor has been the weather with several periods of rain over the past few weeks and better growing weather.
