Dual credits allow high school students to earn both high school and post-secondary credits for the same course, says Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Hal Perry.
“Dual credit programs are intended to assist high school students in completing their grad requirements, while easing the transition to post-secondary,” said Minister Perry. “These credits count towards high school graduation as well as towards a credit at Holland College, including the dual credit Accounting Principles, which is new for this year.”
The dual credit courses currently available are Economics 621A and Accounting 621A.
Economics 621A
All students who have successfully completed Economics 621A and have achieved a grade of 60 per cent or greater, will be exempt from taking the equivalent course at Holland College: Business 2030.
Business 2030 is an elective or a core course in the following Holland College programs:
• Business Administration
• Accounting Technology
• Marketing and Advertising Management
• Sport and Leisure Management
Students who are interested in enrolling in the above mentioned programs at Holland College can choose to transfer the credit, and they will receive a reduction in tuition for the equivalent of the course.
Accounting Principles 621A
Accounting Principles 621A is an elective or a core course in the following Holland College programs:
• Golf Club Management
• International Hospitality Management
• Marketing and Advertising Management
• Tourism and Travel Management
• Sport and Leisure Management.
Students who complete this course, and have achieved a grade of 60 per cent or greater, will be exempt from taking the equivalent course at Holland College: Accounting 1001.
“As we move forward with this initiative, we hope to expand dual credit options to include other post-secondary opportunities,” said Minister Perry. “It is important that all Island students have the opportunity to reach their full potential, so we are committed to working with our partners in offering students excellent opportunities to succeed in life.”
