April 20, 2011 * Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal [to May 2015]Island drivers should be prepared to use extra caution on Island roads tonight as the province braces for bad weather in the form of a late April storm, says Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Ron MacKinley. “Our provincial plows will be clearing snow and salting the main roads throughout the province tonight, but secondary roads will receive reduced service levels because a lot of equipment has already been taken out of service,” said Minister MacKinley. “With that in mind, we’re asking all drivers to use extra caution, especially on secondary roads where snow clearing and sanding operations would normally take place. We will do our best to get to as many roads as possible.” Contracts with private operators expired in mid-April, but individual operators will be asked to provide service on an as-needed basis. Forecasters expect the storm to pass overnight and they expect temperatures to rise early tomorrow.Media Contact: Andrew Sprague
