Drivers asked to use caution as storm batters all three counties

* Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal [to May 2015]
Island drivers are asked to use caution over the coming hours as higher than usual tides, high winds and rain are expected to continue overnight in all three counties.

High tide on the north shore is expected around 5:30 p.m. Crews with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal are busy dealing with downed trees and minor flooding issues and will remain on standby to deal with any further situations that may occur on account of high water levels and rough wave action. Minor flooding is already being reported in several areas such as Brackley Beach, Rustico, Savage Harbour and Malpeque. Drivers should be aware that low lying areas at bridge and culvert locations can be effected by the higher than normal tides. Drivers should use caution when entering those areas.

With high winds there is the possibility of debris such as tree limbs and waste watch carts entering the roadway. Drivers should use extra caution and slow down in case such debris is on the roadway ahead.

If drivers encounter a situation, that has not been addressed by Transportation crews, they should call the appropriate dispatch office to report the situation. In Queens County call (902) 368-4770, in Kings County (902) 652-8960 and in Prince County (902) 888-8275.
