* Health and Social Services [to Nov 2005]
Dr. Mark Triantafillou has accepted a new role as consulting psychiatrist at McGill Community Mental Health in Charlottetown and Director of Mental Health for the province.

Dr. Triantafillou has been providing consulting psychiatry services at Prince County Hospital since 1978. He was appointed Chief of Staff at the hospital in 1990 and regional medical director in 1994.

Queens Region Health CEO Sylvia Barron advised that Dr. Triantafillou brings a wealth of experience to his new role. "In addition to his extensive experience in East Prince, he has held other positions such as Director of Mental Health and Director of Addiction Services, as well as consulting psychiatrist at Hillsborough Hospital and community mental health centres in Summerside, West Prince and Charlottetown," said Ms. Barron. "Dr. Triantafillou's sound understanding of community-based mental health programs and his proven track record in delivering these services using an interdisciplinary approach will make him a real asset to our region."

Dr. Triantafillou will join Dr. Angus Beck and other professional staff at McGill Centre, which provides services for clients who require on-going psychiatric consultation, medication management and follow-up care in the community.

Health and Social Services Minister Jamie Ballem advised that, as Director of Mental Health for the province, Dr. Triantafillou will have responsibility for the administration of the Mental Health Act. He will also provide advice to the Department and assist in the overall planning and coordination of mental health service delivery across the province. "We have some very real challenges and opportunities ahead in this area, and we are fortunate to have someone with Dr. Triantafillou's knowledge and experience working with us to address these issues," said the Minister.

Minister Ballem advised that Dr. Chris Stewart is now providing psychiatric consultation at Prince County Hospital, and recruitment is ongoing for psychiatrists in Summerside and Charlottetown. "We have had several expressions of interest, and we are hopeful that we will have additional psychiatric resources in place soon," said the Minister.
