Prince Edward Island’s craft and giftware industry will be promoted this weekend during the annual studio tour, Discover Prince Edward Island Studios, said Hon. Allan Campbell, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning.
“The Government of Prince Edward Island is proud to partner with Island artists to promote the craft industry,” said Minister Campbell. “We are encouraging people to visit PEI studios this weekend to experience the quality craftsmanship and creativity of our artisans and take advantage of a PST-free shopping weekend.”
During September 25 - September 27, 2009, shoppers will be able to save the provincial sales tax (PST) on PEI crafts and giftware at participating studios across Prince Edward Island. This year, more than 65 studios are participating and are promoting a wide variety of items ranging from woodcrafts, jewellery, iron works, glass work to basket weaving.
PEI artisans are known for their friendly welcome and willingness to share their craft and their stories with visitors. All artisans also have a retail area where you can shop for unique items made in their studios.
“Prince Edward Island’s craft and giftware sector provides year-round employment for many Islanders and is a significant contributor to the PEI economy, “ said Minister Campbell. “We are pleased to support the craft industry with this special weekend inviting people to travel across the Island visiting our craft and giftware shops. This vibrant sector also complements the cultural experience available in PEI.”
