Discover The Ocean In Your Backyard

* Agriculture, Fisheries, Aquaculture & Forestry [to Oct 2004]
The Prince Edward Island Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, Aquaculture and Forestry is joining with the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans to host an Oceans Day Barbecue at Peake’s Quay on the Charlottetown Waterfront, this Saturday, June 5, noon until 2 p.m., in conjunction with the “Week on the Waterfront.”

The Oceans Day event will feature information on the Prince Edward Island fishery, the proposed Basin Head Marine Protected Area, Island seafood recipes, colouring booklets and a colouring contest for children, and numerous draws for prizes. The theme, “Discover the Ocean in Your Backyard,” invites you to take action to protect marine and freshwater ecosystems.

World Oceans Day is an annual event first established in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Since then, people have celebrated World Oceans Day by getting involved in special events and activities promoting ocean health and sustainable development.
