The Honourable Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology, officially opened a new departmental building in Charlottetown today, marking the relocation of three corporations: Prince Edward Island Business Development Inc, Technology PEI and Island Investment Development Inc. The 94 Euston Street location was selected with Island businesses in mind.
"The relocation of these corporations means that the business development needs of Island businesses and clients can now be met under this one roof," said Minister Currie. "Our Department is committed to advancing sound business opportunities in PEI's traditional and emerging industries. These corporations successfully lead our development effort, and I am confident that this new location will only enhance current service"
The decision for the relocation was based on numerous factors including cost efficiency and accessibility. Providing free visitor parking was another added benefit of the new building.
"There's no doubt that this building is much more visible and accessible than previous office space," said Minister Currie. "We hope this encourages more 'drop in' traffic to these offices and also facilitates dealings with current clients and contacts."
Prince Edward Island Business Development is the lead development agency for the province. The corporation solicits and supports investment, creating jobs and wealth for the Island; actively supports small business; encourages entrepreneurship and investment risk sharing; and actively promotes PEI as a competitive place to do business.
Technology PEI, a provincial crown corporation within the Department of Development and Technology, provides a leadership role in the development, use and adoption of information technology for business and community in Prince Edward Island
Island Investment Development Inc. is the focal point for PEI on policy issues relating to immigration, investment and trade.
