May 14, 2009 Premier's OfficeToday, Premier Robert Ghiz announced the retirement of respected civil servant Paul Jelley, effective May 29, 2009. “Paul Jelley has worked very hard on behalf of the people of this province and he is certainly well-respected for his many contributions to the Island,” said Premier Ghiz. “I sincerely thank him for his dedication and professionalism and congratulate him on his retirement.” After a successful career in the private sector, Mr. Jelley returned to Prince Edward Island in 2000 to serve as the province’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. He also served as Deputy Minister of Development and Technology before being appointed Deputy Provincial Treasurer on October 12, 2004. “Paul has been a true leader in our Department, in every sense of the word,” said Minister Sheridan. “He is behind many of Treasury’s efforts to restore a higher standard of fiscal accountability for Islanders.
