Department Offering Development Mixers To Island Communities

The Honourable Michael F. Currie, Minister of Development and Technology, announced today that his department is launching a new initiative entitled "Development Mixers - Exploring Development Opportunities in Your Community". The Development Mixers are designed to introduce Island communities to the various programs and services available through the department and will feature information on how to access community and business development services.

The initiative is in response to the success of the Development and Technology Information Sessions held last spring in 13 Island communities. The Development Mixers will essentially follow the same format, however, communities will now have the opportunity to invite the Department of Development and Technology, as well as Prince Edward Business Development (PEIBD), into their areas at any time throughout the year.

"Through the Department of Development and Technology and PEIBD, Islanders can access a host of programs and services to support and strengthen their communities and their businesses," said Minister Currie. "The goal of the Development Mixers is to work with Island communities to educate their residents and give them the business and community development information they need to make the progress they want."

To launch the Development Mixers, six sessions are going to be held across the province. The dates and times for these sessions are as follows. All sessions begin at 7:00 p.m.

Monday, June 11:

Rodd Mill River Resort, Mill River

Rollo Bay Inn, Rollo Bay

Wednesday, June 13:

Loyalist Country Inn, Summerside

Rodd Marina Suites, Montague

PEI Preserve Company, New Glasgow

Thursday, June 14:

Lady Of Assumption Parish Hall, Stratford

"Launching the Development Mixers in six Island centres will give people an idea of what the mixers are all about. My hope is that representatives from all communities will come out to see if they would like to work with the Department to host a Development Mixer in their own region," said Minister Currie.

Representatives from the Department of Development, PEIBD and Technology PEI, as well as local business and community development officers, will be on hand at each mixer to provide information and answer questions.
