Advertisements will appear in Island newspapers next week for five senior positions in the Department of Health and Social Services.
This staffing process follows from the recent amendments to the Health and Community Services Act, which disbanded the former Health and Community Services Agency and transferred the former Agency's staff to the Department of Health and Social Services.
The Honourable Mildred Dover indicated that the positions being advertised are not additional positions. "In fact," she said, "there will only be eight senior positions in the merged Department, as opposed to the fifteen senior positions we had previously in the two organizations."
The eight positions include the Deputy Minister and two medical based positions which are already filled.
Minister Dover advised that the Department will work with any affected employees to maximize their opportunities within the public service sector. She also noted that some employees have already moved to other positions within the public sector.
The smaller number of senior positions reflects the elimination of duplications and the desire to achieve an effective and efficient organization.
The decision to advertise the positions through open competition was made to ensure maximum opportunity by the most capable people throughout the health system and in other sectors.
