Holland College's Aerospace & Industrial Technology Centre is now accepting applications for its Scholarship and Bursary program. Initiated by the Department of Development and Technology last spring, the Aerospace Scholarship and Bursary Program is designed to encourage Islanders to consider a career in the province's growing aerospace industry.
"Prince Edward Island's aerospace industry has an annual payroll of $13 million and the industry continues to grow at an impressive rate of 20 per cent each year," said The Honourable Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "This industry offers viable job options for Islanders and through the Scholarship and Bursary Program, we want to promote aerospace training and careers."
The Aerospace Scholarship and Bursary Program consists of a $100,000 contribution by the provincial government which has been matched by private companies in the aerospace industry. These funds are being distributed to aerospace students over a five year period. According to the Chair of the Holland College Foundation, Albert Fogarty, the program provides a welcome boost to the school's students.
"We are extremely pleased with the support the aerospace programs and particularly, our aerospace students, are receiving from the Province and private industry," commented Fogarty. "It is their dedication and commitment that is making the financial load that much easier for students wanting to train and be employed in this field."
Last fall, five students were presented with the PEI Business Development Aerospace Awards, with a combined value of $29,000.
The bursaries are now available for aerospace students to apply for through Holland College and the deadline is quickly approaching. For more information about the application process, contact Yvonne Garhnum in the Registrar's Office at Holland College at (902) 566-9517.
