A well-respected Island accountant with a long history of community involvement has been appointed Deputy Minister of Finance, Energy and Municipal Affairs, says Premier Robert Ghiz.
“David Arsenault will greatly strengthen government’s senior management team by bringing a great deal of experience to the table,” Premier Ghiz said. “In his new position, Mr. Arsenault will help government to follow through with the province’s plan for economic expansion and fiscal discipline.”
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Arsenault was a managing partner with Arsenault Best Cameron Ellis (biography attached). He will begin his new duties on September 18. He replaces former Deputy Finance Minister Steve MacLean, who is now Clerk of Executive Council.
Biography:
David Arsenault has more than 35 years experience as a Chartered Accountant. In 2007, his work was recognized by his peers when he was admitted as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Prince Edward Island.
A graduate of the University of Prince Edward Island, Mr. Arsenault has devoted a significant portion of his career to the Island community. For example, he was instrumental in the creation of the Colonel Gray Foundation – which assists in providing scholarships to students. He was also a guiding force behind the indoor soccer complex, which was built in Stratford in 2008.
Additionally, Mr. Arsenault was a member of the University’s Board of Governors for nine years, between 1988 and 1996. Prior to that, he was a member of the Board of Directors for the Prince Edward Island Division of the Canadian Red Cross.
