Daly Replaces Mickelson At Export "A" Skins Game

John Daly is replacing Phil Mickelson as one of the four competitors at the sixth annual Export "A" Skins Game presented by NEC, being held at the Links at Crowbush Cove in Prince Edward Island from July 26-28, 1998.

Mickelson asked to be released from competing after a personal family commitment arose that coincided with the dates of the event.

Daly, who finished fourth in the Nissan Open last weekend, is delighted with the opportunity to compete in the Export "A" Skins Game.

"I am thrilled I have been invited to compete in the event," said Daly. "I have never been to Prince Edward Island and am looking forward to playing the course. I am also delighted that Export "A" has recruited such a top-notch cast of golfers to go head-to-head against."

Daly has four PGA victories since joining the Tour in 1991, including the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 British Open. Daly led the Tour in driving distance last season for the sixth time in his career, becoming the first player to average more than 300 yards per drive for an entire season with an average of 302 yards. He also leads the Tour in driving distance this season with a 304.3 average.

"We're very pleased that John is stepping in," said Stan Smith, Chief Operating Officer, RJR-Macdonald Inc. "It's wonderful to see him back and healthy again. He's been playing well and has been exciting to watch. We know that Canadian golf fans will be looking forward to seeing him play against the other golfers."

Daly will be playing against defending champion Greg Norman, three-time winner Fred Couples and Canadian golfer Mike Weir for the $360,000 purse.
