Cycor Communications to Operate National Call Centre

Another company has chosen PEI as the location for their call centre. HookUp Communications Corporation, through its subsidiary Cycor Communications Inc., is establishing a national 30-seat call centre in the Capital Honda building in Charlottetown.

HookUp's national 1-800 tech support centre will be located in Prince Edward Island and will be operated by Cycor. Cycor was chosen over locations in Nova Scotia and Toronto to operate the national call centre based largely on its success in operating its current 20 employee call centre.

"Telecommunications is a growing industry on PEI and government is pleased to support local business with this initiative," said Catherine Callbeck, Premier of Prince Edward Island. "Cycor has been successful in capturing national credibility and exposure, while creating new jobs for Islanders."

"In 1993, Enteprise PEI supported the business plan created by Cycor and today it is an example of a successful Island-owned company," said Robert Morrissey, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism. "This expansion will create an additional 50 highly-skilled technology jobs over the next year."

"This new centre will provide technical support for our current 40,000 customer base across the country," said James EstIll, CEO of HookUp. "We are confident that Prince Edward Island can provide us with the quality workers to fill the positions."

"Island Tel is proud to provide a world class telecommunications infrastructure, fostering the economic prosperity of our province as seen through initiatives such as the one announced today," says Ron Waite, General Manager, Sales and Customer Service at Island Tel.

Cycor was established in February, 1995 by Jamie Hill and Sean Sears to be Canada's first national internet access provider. In February, 1996, Cycor and 18 other privately-owned Internet access providers were purchased by HookUp, one of Canada's largest Internet service providers.

"Cycor's existing call centre will continue to provide order processing services for new clients," said Jamie Hill, President of Cycor. "Our current employees will operate at the same location."

HookUp now provides a national internet presence in over 100 cities and towns across Canada through its 46 company owned subsidiaries. HookUp is a subsidiary of EMJ Data Systems Ltd.

The call centre will open June 1, 1996.
