CRAFT & GIFTWARE ANNUAL EVENT ARRIVES ONE WEEK EARLIER THIS YEAR

The craft and giftware industry is gearing up for the seventh annual Prince Edward Island Buyer’s Market weekend, the kick-off trade event of 2007. The weekend show is scheduled to take place at the Delta Prince Edward Hotel today and saturday.

The annual event gives participating exhibitors an opportunity to showcase original Island-made craft and giftware products to buyers for the upcoming tourist season.

“The Government of Prince Edward Island supports the development of the craft and giftware industry through strategic initiatives like the annual Buyer’s Market event,” said the Premier of Prince Edward Island, Pat Binns. “The eye-catching treasures that Prince Edward Island craft and giftware producers create are popular items on retailers shelves. Handmade products from Island producers are known for their high quality and uniqueness among Islanders and tourists alike.”

This year’s event is pleased to welcome 10 new exhibitors. Retailers will be coming from locations across the Maritime provinces to participate in the event.

“We launched this event in January 2001, and since that time the show has grown to become a prosperous event for participants,” said Minister of Development and Technology, Michael Currie. “As it has been strategically placed to be the first official buying show of the season in Canada, it’s the perfect opportunity to prepare for the upcoming busy months that lie ahead. The PEI craft & giftware industry has the opportunity to get a head start on the season with this local event.”

This wholesale show will also feature interesting and informative seminars by two of Canada’s retail sales presenters.

On January 12, learn how to turn problems into success with keynote speaker Tyler Haden with his award winning seminar, “Livin’ Life Large.”

On Saturday, January 13, discover trends through the eyes of retail display with Leslie Kish Groves as she elaborates on “Trends for Today and Tomorrow.”

The Prince Edward Island Buyer’s Market is a trade only event and is free to all retailers. The annual event is presented by Prince Edward Island Business Development. For more information, contact Marie Walsh at 569-7787 or dmwalsh@gov.pe.ca
