At a ceremony at Government House today, the Lieutenant Governor awarded eight recipients with Corrections Exemplary Service Medals.
Today's ceremony marks an extra special occasion because it is the first time that the Corrections Exemplary Service Medals and Certificates have been awarded in Prince Edward Island. "These medals serve as a token of our recognition and appreciation for the distinguished service of Corrections professionals in the province," says Hon. P. Mitchell Murphy, Attorney General of Prince Edward Island.
The Corrections Exemplary Service Medal is a national award. Lieutenant Government Gilbert Clements presented the recipients with engraved medals on behalf of the Governor General of Canada. The awards were established to recognize long and outstanding service in the high-risk professions providing public security.
Provincial recipients of the Corrections Exemplary Service Medals include: Alan Paquet, Ken MacDonald, Bob Albert, Gordon Garrison, Keith Wakelin, Sterling Williams, Bill Berry, Barry Thompson.
"The work involved in Corrections is typically less visible than in other security professions. Nevertheless, the Corrections professional faces potential danger on a daily basis. Today's medal recipients have demonstrated the highest calibre of professionalism in carrying out their duties," says Allan Curley, Director of Correctional Services of Prince Edward Island.
Corrections is an important field for the preservation of public peace and security. Awarding medals for exemplary service in Corrections is one of the best ways of tangibly recognizing distinguished service.
