The Provincial Department of Transportation and Public Works announced another 5.1 million dollars in bridge and road construction this week, for the upcoming construction season. The Department tendered a total of five projects in Queens and Prince Counties. The biggest of these five tenders is the full reconstruction and widening of 2.1 kilometres of Route 2, Veterans Memorial Highway, from Portage to West Devon.

“These projects highlight our continued efforts to improve road safety all over Prince Edward Island,” says Minister of Transportation and Public Works Ron MacKinley. “To date this year we’ve tendered over 16 million dollars in road work and there are more projects on the way.”

Also included in this round of tenders: replacement of the North River Bridge deck, reconstruction and re-alignment of Route 6 from Stanley Bridge to Bayview Bridge, re-paving of 2.5 kilometres of Route 107 (the Blue Shank Road) and the re-alignment and upgrade of the intersection of Cemetery Road and Route 14 in St. Lawrence.
