Confederation Trail Open Postponed for 2004

The Confederation Trail Open, a province-wide cycling race proposed for the fall of 2004, has been postponed with plans to hold the event at a later date.

The event organizers agreed that the short planning time-line contributed to a slower than anticipated pre-registration for the event, and the group concluded that postponing the event for 2004 would be a prudent decision.

“We discussed the pros and cons to postponing the 2004 event and decided that we needed a bit more exposure in the cycling circles to ensure a strong registration for the event,” noted Ruth Sturz, Co-Chair of the event. “The event has a lot of potential and we hope to pursue it at a later date, using this year’s promotion as a base to grow the event to an appropriate level.”

Ms. Sturz added, “We are confident that this event would bring great exposure to both the trail and our Island as an excellent cycling venue for both competitive and recreational cyclists. We simply want to ensure that our sponsors and funding partners would reap the benefits of a successful event and plan to work towards that end.”
