Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers Choice Awards Note P.E.I. as Third Favourite Island

Condé Nast Traveler, a leading consumer travel magazine, released its 17th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards and listed Prince Edward Island as number three in the top ten North American Islands in what is regarded the highest honour in the travel industry. The number three position is especially impressive given the fact that, in 2003, PEI was ranked tenth in the same category. This recognition only reinforces the fact that, for the second year, readers of another prestigious travel publication, Travel + Leisure, have chosen Prince Edward Island as their favourite North American island.

In a news release by Condé Nast Traveler, it was noted that approximately 20,000 dedicated readers voted on islands, cities, hotels, airlines, rental cars and cruise lines around the world to affirm the best-of-the-best in travel. The magazine has won six National Magazine Awards and has a circulation of over 750,000.

“We are honoured to be chosen by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler as number three in the top ten North American Islands, just behind Vancouver and Nantucket,” said Minister of Tourism, Philip Brown. “In the global marketplace, it is a great accomplishment to be singled out and held in such high regard by those who travel extensively. This is a compliment to all of the tourism industry on Prince Edward Island and a great opportunity to further our excellent reputation.”

Watch for copies of the November 2004 issue of Condé Nast Traveler on newsstands October 26.
