The Department of Health and Wellness and Health PEI have added two additional meetings on Better Access, Better Care, says Minister of Health and Wellness Doug Currie.
“Better Access, Better Care is about enhancing our health care system to benefit the needs of our patients,” said Minister Currie. “These changes will affect every Islander from Tignish to Souris including those who live in the province’s cities, so we want to provide residents the opportunity to understand what the changes mean for them.”
Saturday, April 6, 2013 ~ Murchison Centre, Charlottetown, 9 - 11 a.m.
Saturday, April 20, 2013 ~ Loyalist Lakeview Resort, Summerside, 9 - 11 a.m.
Recent enhancements announced to the Prince Edward Island health care system include enhancing the province’s robust ambulance fleet, stabilizing dialysis services, introducing the province’s first ever Collaborative Emergency Centre and establishing 811 Telehealth so that Islanders are only a phone call away from accessing professional health care advice and focusing the work of our community hospitals.
The Prince County Hospital in Summerside and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown will remain Prince Edward Island’s two main referral hospitals and provide acute care services to patients from across the province. Kings County Memorial Hospital in Montague and Western Hospital in Alberton will also provide acute care services, and Community Hospital O’Leary and Souris Hospital will become specialized extended care hospitals.
“The Province of Prince Edward Island is proud of our One Island Health System, an integrated system where each facility and each caregiver plays an integral role,” said Minister Currie. “I encourage all Islanders to attend a meeting in their area to learn about the health services available in their community and how those services fit into the province’s overall health care system.”
