Colin Younker Appointed Auditor General

Honourable Pat Binns, President of the Executive Council, announced today that the Lieutenant Governor in Council has confirmed the appointment of Colin Younker, CA as Prince Edward Island's Auditor General.

Mr. Younker's appointment is in accordance with section 3 of the Audit Act and is effective October 7, 2002.

At the time of his appointment, Mr. Younker was a partner in the public accounting firm of MacIsaac Younker Roche Soloman, and the Chair of the Indemnities and Allowance Commission. The Commission is an independent three person body which reports directly to the Legislative Assembly on matters respecting remuneration and benefits for MLAs.

Colin Younker graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Colby College in 1973 and received his chartered accountancy designation in 1978. He is a member in good standing with PEI Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Mr. Younker has, and continues to have, a significant involvement within the community having volunteered with a number of organizations including the Board of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation and the PEI and Canadian branches of the Kidney Foundation.

Colin Younker and his wife Debbie reside in North Wiltshire. They have three sons: Ben, Matt and Colby.

The Auditor General is required under the Audit Act to report annually to the Legislative Assembly on the spending of public resources by the Government of Prince Edward Island. The Auditor General and the Office of the Auditor General operate autonomously from the Government and report directly to the Legislative Assembly.
