Check Condition of Civic Address Signs

Hon. Carolyn Bertram, Minister responsible for the Prince Edward Island Office of Public Safety, today reminded property owners to ensure that their civic number signs are in good condition, clearly legible and visible from the roadway.

“Emergency service providers – fire, police and ambulance personnel – rely on the civic number signs to find a location in an emergency,” said Minister Bertram. “Signs that have become damaged or have fallen from the post or building can impede the speed with which the emergency service provider finds a location, and this could put lives or property in danger.”

In Alberton, Borden-Carleton, Brackley, Charlottetown, Cornwall, Georgetown, Kensington, Kinkora, Miscouche, Montague, O'Leary, Souris, Stratford, Summerside, Tignish, Victoria and Wellington, the municipality is responsible for civic addressing. Residents requiring replacement signs in those municipalities should contact their municipal office.

Property owners living outside the municipalities above can have a replacement white on blue sign made by any local sign manufacturer who complies with Provincial standards.
