CGI Announces New Centre In PEI Creating 150 Jobs

CGI Group Inc. (CGI), a world-class leader in information technology (IT) and business process services, has selected Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island as the first satellite location of its Atlantic Global Delivery Center (AGDC).

The Prince Edward Island location, which will deliver IT application development and maintenance services, will immediately create 150 full time jobs with plans for future growth. The company will set up a temporary office in the Atlantic Technology Centre before relocating to a permanent facility in the future.

The addition of the Prince Edward Island centre is an important next step in CGI’s plans to evolve its nearshore capabilities in Atlantic Canada to support the growing demands of its global clients. Currently, CGI employs more than 400 professionals in Halifax, Nova Scotia which is home to the primary AGDC location. “We are extremely proud of the success of our Atlantic Global Delivery strategy and are pleased that its growth has led to the creation of a CGI centre in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island,” said Cecil Smith, Senior Vice-President of Atlantic Canada at CGI. “We believe that the combination of Prince Edward Island’s existing skilled labour force and the Province’s strong educational focus create an environment in which we can grow and succeed.”

“We are always looking for ways to create high quality employment opportunities in the information technology and communications sectors, so I am particularly pleased to welcome one of the largest independent IT services company in the world to Prince Edward Island,” said Premier Pat Binns. “Together with CGI, our Province is creating a future for the youth of Prince Edward Island to work in a professional environment with

a solid IT company. As we welcome CGI to Prince Edward Island, we look at it as an investment into our business community, people and economy.”

CGI provides end-to-end services – from technology and application management to systems integration and consulting to business process services - through a flexible and cost-efficient delivery model that combines on-site and off-site operations. For the fifth year in a row, CGI has been selected as one of Canada’s top employers by Mediacorp Canada.

“CGI is one of the best IT companies in Canada to work for as the surveys have shown,” said Minister Mike Currie. “CGI had a lengthy process when deciding where to locate this particular centre and we are pleased that we were able to work with the company to showcase the benefits of doing business in our Province. This company will offer challenging IT jobs that will employ our citizens and keep them here at home.”

CGI is currently recruiting software developers with specific skills in three main areas; web development, mainframe and client server. Interested applicants are encouraged to send their resumes to atlanticjobs@cgi.com or visit www.cgi.com for current job openings.
