PEI Business Development, the lead economic development agency for the province, invites small business owners across the province to take part in one of the many activities during Small Business Week October 21-25.
"Small businesses on Prince Edward Island are major contributors to our provincial economy," stated Michael F. Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "Small Business Week allows us the chance to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of Island companies who have contributed to our economy and employment on Prince Edward Island."
PEI Business Development will host a series of lunch and learn workshops across the province on marketing, lean manufacturing and human resources. The workshops are focussed on topics and tools which business owners can put to use in their everyday business operations.
The marketing session will focus on creating and executing an effective marketing plan. Lean manufacturing will provide an overview of how companies can make their production process more cost effective. The human resources session will teach ways for employers to make the right hire and retain employees.
"Our Department, through PEI Business Development, has worked closely with the small business community across the province and we are pleased to provide year-round support towards their hard work and commitment in operating a business," said Minister Currie.
Workshops will be held in Alberton, Tignish, Woodstock, Crapaud, Rollo Bay and Montague. For a complete listing of times and locations, contact PEI Business Development at 1-800-563-3734.
In addition to the lunch and learn sessions, PEI Business Development is pleased to be a partner in the 2002 Women in Business Symposium, October 22-23, at the Charlottetown Hotel. This year's theme is "Turning Practice into Profit" and will provide women business operators with an opportunity to learn tools which can help make their businesses more profitable.
