This weekend, hundreds of students from across Canada will come to Charlottetown for the Canadian Youth Against Impaired Driving (CYAID) annual conference at the University of Prince Edward Island. The students represent organizations like Students Against Drunk Driving. They attend the annual CYAID conference to share ideas and best practices, and to hear how impaired driving has affected the lives of Canadians. The goal of the conference is to give delegates the tools they need to spread the message about impaired driving in their home communities.
“The dangers of impaired driving are well known, but we still see far too many cases every year,“ says minister of Transportation and Public works Ron MacKinley. “Events like this one give student organizations an opportunity to share their knowledge, and to learn different ways to get through to people about the potentially tragic consequences of impaired driving.”
The conference will feature presentations from Canadians whose lives have been directly affected by impaired driving. It will also feature learning sessions, public presentations and networking opportunities for both the delegates and their advisors.
“The event is shaping up to be both educational and entertaining for everyone involved,” says the provincial coordinator for CYAID, Adeline Trainor. “Not only will the conference be educational, but we’ve taken steps to make sure the delegates enjoy themselves, and to make sure they get a taste of our Island hospitality.”
