Nominations for candidates to offer for election as trustee for the Eastern School District Zone No. 1 are now being accepted.
Due to a resignation, a trustee will be elected to the Eastern School District Zone No. 1 with the Trustee election to be held on Monday, November 23, 2009. The date of the by-election was announced on October 27, 2009, by the Honourable Gerard Greenan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development.
Lowell Croken, Chief Electoral Officer for Prince Edward Island, announced the call for nominations of candidates today. Official nomination papers are available from the Zone Returning Officer, Mr. Michael Clinton, 50 Main Street, Souris, PE C0A 2B0, Ph.: (902) 687-2308. Information for the school trustee election will be published in the Guardian newspaper and the Eastern Graphic newspaper. Nominations will close at 4 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009.
The qualifications of a candidate for school trustee shall be: (1) Canadian citizen, (2) eighteen years of age or more on election day and (3) shall have been ordinarily resident in the Eastern School District for at least six months prior to the date of the election.

Website at www.electionspei.ca, a candidate can find the Address Locator, a program which is designed to assist in determining whether he or she resides within the Eastern School District Zone No. 1. Assistance will also be available from the Zone Returning Officer, Elections P.E.I. Office, the P.E.I. Home and School Association and schools.
