Premier Pat Binns and the Provincial Cabinet will be travelling to the Borden-Carleton area today to hold the first community cabinet meeting of the summer.
Premier Binns and the provincial cabinet are continuing their tradition of holding meetings in Island communities throughout the summer and fall. Since 1996, cabinet meetings have been held in many communities on Prince Edward Island.
“Holding cabinet meetings in Island communities has been very valuable for our government,” said Premier Binns. “Our partnership with Island communities is strengthened because community groups can meet with cabinet to advance projects and provide a local perspective, which is important to the decision-making process.”
Cabinet will conduct its regular business until 10:30 a.m. Meetings are scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. with Borden-Carleton Holdings, Borden-Carleton Community Council, Borden-Carleton Community Recreation Committee, and Kinkora Area Business Commission.
The afternoon features a tour of Transcontinental PEI, a major printing plant. The final stop is a tour of the new Atlantic Beef Products Plant in Albany, a producer-owned beef processing plant scheduled to begin operation in October 2004.
Fred McCardle, MLA for District 19, Borden-Kinkora, will be present for the meetings and tour with Cabinet.
