Bridge Deck Replacement and Repair on the Trans Canada Highway

* Transportation and Public Works [to Jan 2010]
The Prince Edward Island Department of Transportation and Public Works strengthened its commitment to safe bridges and overpasses this week by closing two tenders for bridge deck repair and replacements on the Trans Canada Highway. Work will begin on both before the end of September.

The first project will be deck repairs at the Bonshaw Bridge. During construction traffic will be reduced to one lane; minor delays are to be expected. Traffic control personnel will be on hand during the work day. At night electronic traffic control signals will be in place to control traffic flow. Additional signage will be installed to warn oncoming vehicles of the work ahead, and during construction the speed limit in the area will be reduced to 40 km/h. Work is expected to wrap up on the Bonshaw Bridge near the end of October.

The second project will be a full deck replacement on the Stratford Pedestrian overpass, just south of the Hillsborough Bridge. Traffic will be reduced to two lanes rather than four for the balance of construction. Delays are to be expected during the morning and afternoon rush-hours. A detour may also have to be put in place for up to two days at the end of the project. Further information on that detour will be released as the date approaches. Traffic control personnel will be on hand during the day, and the area will be well lit and coned at night. This is a heavy traffic area so road users are asked to exercise patience and caution when approaching the area. The Stratford Overpass deck replacement is expected to be complete by the end of October.

Please use extreme caution and drive safely when travelling through all construction zones.
