Islanders are doing us proud when it comes to electronic recycling across Prince Edward Island, says Minister of Communities, Land and Environment Robert Mitchell.
“It was a privilege for me to donate a computer to the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottetown on Friday in celebration of the great work Islanders are doing in regards to the recycling of used electronics,” said Minister Mitchell. “I hope the children will be excited about their recycled computer and that it will encourage them to be enthusiastic about recycling in their daily lives.”
Each year more than 100,000 devices are recycled across Prince Edward Island. That means five tractor trailer loads of recycled electronics leave the province for recycling each month. To date the program has recycled about 327 tractor trailer loads of electronic products.
“Thank you to Minister Mitchell for thinking of our Club with this laptop donation,” said Krista Shaw, Executive Director of Boys and Girls Club of Charlottetown. “The children love to explore their creativity with games, music and art programs we offer during our specified computer time. We will also be able to use this laptop in our evening program, ‘The Club', so youth can search for employment opportunities.”
The Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) provided the free, recycled laptop computer. The EPRA operates an industry-led and government-approved electronic products recycling program across the province.
