Book Club in a Bag Offers A New Way to Share the Joy of Reading

* Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour [to Jan 2010]
The Provincial Library Service is launching a new program which will enable Island book club enthusiasts to operate independent book clubs in their communities. It’s called Book Club in a Bag and it has everything you need for a successful book club meeting in one convenient tote bag.

Each tote bag contains ten copies of a book; the author's biography, a discussion guide and questions relevant to the book. Island libraries currently have ample copies of 36 titles available for the book club bags, with 35 more on order and – to recognize the 100th anniversary of the publication of Anne of Green Gables – 25 LM Montgomery novels will be added later this spring. Some titles are also available in French.

“Book Clubs are becoming more and more popular,” said Hon. Carolyn Bertram, Minister of Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour. “The Book Club in a Bag program is just one more of the many great ways in which our libraries are supporting and encouraging readers.”

Reading selections feature popular fiction and non-fiction titles for adults as well as teens. Current titles available include: The Kite Runner, The Life of Pi, The Road, My Sister's Keeper, A New Earth and The Brow of Dawn, by Catherine Edward, winner of the 2006 Prince Edward Island Book Award.

A Book Club in a Bag can be reserved in person at your local library, or on-line at www.library.pe.ca.
