Premier Pat Binns says that Islanders can expect to see the Provincial Cabinet out and about and visiting communities across Prince Edward Island this summer and fall. The Premier was referring to his intention to hold joint cabinet meetings with communities councils and development groups again this year.
The Binns government is the first in the province's history to hold regular cabinet meetings outside of Charlottetown.
"Our experience has been that the more you can involve communities and gather a perspective, the more apt we are to make good decisions together," notes the Premier.
The Cabinet is convening today in the Murray River/Murray Harbour area and met in Borden-Carleton on June 18. The Cabinet will travel outside of Charlottetown approximately every second week until October.
Community Cabinet meetings allow time to deal with regular Cabinet business, then follow with presentations and discussions involving two or three groups representing the interests of one or more communities in the area. During these discussions, Cabinet is often joined by the district MLA and the regional Community Development Officer.
"Community Cabinet meetings are key to our ability to keep in touch with Islanders and Island communities. I look forward to another series of important meetings," said Premier Binns.
