Technology PEI, in partnership with KenNet Inc, invites Island youth groups to become involved in the Between Generations Program. Applicants to the program must be a recognized youth group or an affiliate. Funding will be provided to eight groups for the purposes of equipment purchases, staffing or other expenditures necessary to complete the project.
Between Generations focuses on bringing youth together with other generations to discuss significant historic events and create Web sites based on these events. Through this collaborative effort, local traditions and history are shared, discussed and maintained electronically. Participating youth develop new skills in Web site development and interviewing technique.
The program has helped to develop the information technology skills of PEI’s youth and has also provided seniors with an opportunity and a reason to connect to both the Internet and young people.
To date, 45 youth groups from across PEI have completed projects and launched their sites. Their stories and Web sites can be viewed at www.techpei.com under Community Interests/Programs/BetweenGenerations/Previous Projects.
Between Generations is a special initiative of Technology PEI. Technology PEI is the Government of Prince Edward Island’s lead agency in the development, adoption and use of information technologies in business and community in the province.
Applications are available online at www.techpei.com under Community Interests/Programs/BetweenGenerations or by contacting Norman Dewar at KenNet Inc, (902) 836-4003 or ndewar@kennet.pe.ca. Deadline for applications is Wednesday, October 6, 2004.
