The Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission announced today the retail price of domestic beer will increase effective May 1, 2008. The new retail price for beer will increase to $20.25 per dozen - an increase of $0.54 per dozen over last year. Included in the retail price is the $1.20 empty bottle deposit.
The Brewers requested this price increase which is directly attributable to their rising raw material costs. The Brewers have experienced significant increases in several of their key production inputs, notably, malt and glass, as well as considerable increases in fuel, water and electrical costs.
The last beer retail price increase was September, 2007, and the Commission remains the lowest in Atlantic Canada.
