The PEI Liquor Control Commission is pleased to announce that five Nouveau wines will be available in stores in November 2014. Customers will find four Beaujolais Nouveau wines in stores starting this morning, Thursday, November 20, with a Vino Novello being available by the end of the month.
The production of Beaujolais Nouveau wines began as a tradition in France’s Beaujolais region when local winemakers developed a quick maturing wine to enjoy with workers while celebrating the completion of the grape harvest.
The annual release of Beaujolais Nouveau wines has become an international event with these products now accounting for more than one third of the worldwide wine sales from France’s Beaujolais region.
This year, for the first time, the PEILCC was able to source a Beaujolais Nouveau produced from organic viticulture. This product should be of particular interest to the growing number of consumers looking to purchase organic wines.
The Beaujolais Nouveau wines released today are:
• 00212Y Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau - $17.45
• 00690Y Momessin Beaujolais Nouveau - $17.45
• 00213Y Pierre André Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau - $18.50
• 00780Y Labouré-Roi Beaujolais Nouveau Bio (Organic) - $17.95
The PEILCC is also pleased to include a Vino Novello in addition to these four Beaujolais Nouveau wines. Vino Novello is Italy’s take on early release wines and displays the same exuberant fruitiness and soft structure as Beaujolais Nouveau. The following Vino Novello will be offered at the end of November:
• 00689Y Mezzacorona Novello - $14.35
Due to the limited availability of these wines, not all listings will be available in each store. The PEILCC has ensured that each of its 18 retail outlets will carry at least one of these offerings and encourages interested customers to shop early to avoid disappointment.
