Four 2010 “Nouveau” wines, all Beaujolais Nouveau from France, will be available at most PEI Liquor Commission stores across Prince Edward Island starting the morning of Thursday, November 18, 2010. Beaujolais Nouveau wines are the first to be released from the new vintage each year celebrating the completion of the grape harvest. Beaujolais Nouveau wines are always released the third Thursday in November.
The “Nouveau” wine tradition began many years ago in the vineyards of the Beaujolais region of France when local wine makers developed a quick maturing wine to celebrate the completion of the grape harvest with the workers. They called the new wine “Beaujolais Nouveau.”
Over the years, the annual release of the Beaujolais Nouveau wines has evolved into an international event. Today, Beaujolais Nouveau accounts for more than one-third of the worldwide wine sales from the Beaujolais region.
The four wines released today are very reasonably priced: George Deboeuf @ $14.98, Mommessin @ $15.29, Laboure Roi @ $16.10 and Laboure Roi Villages @ $15.99. Interested customers are advised to shop early to avoid disappointment.
