Audiobooks Available for Download Through the Library

Islanders now can download their favorite titles and listen to stories by their favorite authors through the new eAudiobook service of Provincial Libraries.

A popular format in many libraries, eAudiobooks allow library users to listen to materials on-the-go. Users can search for and check out eAudiobooks through their personal computers at home, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. eAudiobooks can be downloaded or played on any desktop or laptop that supports Windows Media Player version 9 and above. They can also transfer and listen to eAudiobooks on a wide range of portable devices that support playback of secure or protected wma files including portable music players.

“I encourage Islanders to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to download books and catch up on their favorite author’s work. This new service supports the active life style of Islanders – now we can listen to books on the go,” says Carolyn Bertram, Minister of Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour. “EAudiobooks is another example of how our provincial libraries are reaching out to offer Islanders alternate services in a variety of formats.”

There is a wide range and variety of titles available for download including mysteries, science fiction, popular fiction and non-fiction. Works from notable authors who regularly appear on best selling lists, such as Dan Brown, Patricia Cornwell, Alexander McCall Smith, Carl Hiassen, Elizabeth Peters, Nevada Barr and Pat Conroy are included.

Over 1,500 titles are available, with new ones being added every month to allow a continuous flow of new titles to library patrons. The library currently subscribes to the eAudiobooks Core Collection of over 1,100 titles, the Pimsleur Language Series Collection of over 160 titles, eAudioEssentials Collection of almost 200 titles, and the CEV Holy Bible Collection of 30 titles.

Access to this new service is available via the library webpage at www.library.pe.ca to any Islander who holds a library card through the Provincial Library Service. Islanders may register for a library card at any one of our 26 library locations. See the library webpage for location and hours at a branch near you. Once you have a library card, audiobooks can be “signed out” online.
